2018 running schedule

2018 is my first full year as a runner and my first year competing in the Sleaford Striders Athletic Clubs race series. I am by far not going to win the series, I am still learning and getting myself stronger. That said, it is all good fun and for me very exciting. As you maybe able to tell, running has become a big part of my life and a major factor in my recent recovery. I’ll talk about the later in another post.

2018 will be a massive year for my running and myself. For someone who battles with social anxiety, I have some big challenges ahead but challenges that I will win! The end goal is too big to miss out! Below is my schedule. There are some runs to be confirmed as entries are not open yet.

January 2018:

7th Jan – Cross Country – Completed in 57 min. This was my first cross country since I was a child, a very young child. The distance was 10k and ran over 4 laps. The highlight for many was running through a freezing cold dyke and ankle deep mud. 57 min does not sound fast but with taking caution to prevent injury for future runs and the fact the conditions were tough, the run was faster than I had expected.

February 2018:

3rd Feb – Rauceby Ripper – Completed in 1 hour 24 minutes. This was the first run in the race series and it was a 8.7 mile muddy trail run. The points we receive for this race in the series were low. Many other runners, like myself took caution for the conditions and made sure we got back safely. with generally running 5, 10 and 21k, 8.7 miles was a new distance and hard on how to know which tactics to use other than caution. Overall, it was an enjoyable run which I ran at a comfortable pace. I know I could of given a lot more and maybe next year, I will!

March 2018:

4th Mar – Ashbourne 10 mile – Not in the race series, this will be a nice steady training run. It is a 5 mile out and 5 mile back route following the stunning Tissington trail, an old railway line connecting the peak district.

18th Mar – Lincoln 10k – Again, as with Ashbourne, this is not in the race series but my local cities 10k. I have entered this with aiming to run sub 50 if possible. I know I can do it providing conditions are suitable ie weather, crowd etc.

April 2018:

8th Apr – Bourne Woods 10k – A warm up run ready for the next race series run. Set in the stunning Bourne woods, the course is generally flat with one main hill.

15th Apr – Grantham 10k Cup – Located at Belton house and taking part during the Belton Horse trials, This is a difficult trail 10k taking in a steep hill twice. A race series run.
